Not only do fairies never leave, but almost every culture seems to have a version of them. Seeing this current grunge fairy aesthetic has been a fun callback for my old 90s, green-fantasy-loving heart. I grew up on stories about punky fairies in fishnets and babydoll dresses, the kind of fairies that always loiter in your periphery, whether they’re urban scenesters or wise creatures out in nature.

What is Fairycore Music?
Fairycore music tells a story. This doesn't have to be a happy story, either. In fact, one of the best things about a fairytale is its ability to scale across all the emotions, from beauty to deep melancholy, loss, wonder, and awareness of personal change.
Some fairycore music does this with ethereal acoustic folk; other versions of it use heavy feedback and grunge guitar riff. A big part of this current aetherial aesthetic is its roots in grunge fairycore, and so we've added some classic grunge tunes to our playlist, whether you play it while planning your room decor or coloring in some mushrooms and crystals.

What Is Fairycore Aesthetic?
Fairycore draws its inspiration from fairytales, folktales, magic, and nature. It tends toward the more ethereal and mystical moods of storytelling, with a love for enchanted forests, flowers, and soft lighting. While it likes the pretty side of things, such as flowing dresses, sparkling diadems, and pastel colors, fairycore isn't afraid of the darker side of things either. It frequently depicts moss, mushrooms, and even bats. Nonetheless, some parts of fairycore will always evoke childlike wonder, even for those of us who are grown up.
Though this aesthetic likes beautiful things, fairies themselves arrant all sunshine and rainbows. Fairy stories often have to do with tricking humans, using names and true identities against them, throwing parties and festivals with treacherous food, masquerading as things and people they aren’t, and stealing children who will never be the same once they've returned. From Alice in Wonderland, to Peter Pan, Tam Lin, Cinderella with her fairy godmother, or A Midsummer Night's Dream, fairy stories talk about the ways we transform and grow as we grow older and pursue our dreams.
Fairycore Aesthetic Color Palette
The fairycore color palette favors soft pastels that occur in nature, including greens and floral colors. The ideal is to create a dreamy and otherworldly atmosphere full of serenity and mystery.
Key colors are pale pink, lavender, and sky blue. Then, on the neutral side, opt for mossy greens, as well as soft browns and golds. You can add metallic accents with shimmering silver. This aesthetic also loves iridescence! Think of a dragonfly's wings.
Fairycore Grunge Aesthetic
The fairycore grunge aesthetic takes its inspiration from the 90s. It's a combination of soft fairycore with raw grunge vibes. You might pair everything flowy and ethereal with bolder and darker accessories, distressed denim, chokers, combat boots, dark tights, and shades of charcoal and burgundy.

The dark fairycore aesthetic embraces the deep mysteries and unsolved riddles of fairytales.
