How to Make a Simple Bookmark Template
You can print out any of our bookmark templates and simply stick them in a book if you like, but if you want your bookmark to last, and be a special, personalized item, keep reading to learn how to make a simple bookmark from a template. You can customize your perfect bookmark to complete your #booktok aesthetic.
Step One: Cut Out Your Design
First, you need to download and print your design. It doesn’t matter whether it’s one of our aesthetic bookmark templates or a cute bookmark template for a kid. Either way, print it and cut it out carefully.
Step Two (Optional): Color or Decorate Your Bookmark Template
We offer a few bookmark templates to color, but you can add your own designs to any of our bookmark templates. Put some glitter on an aesthetic bookmark template or add stickers to a holiday bookmark template. This step is optional, of course, but we highly recommend it. You’ll treasure a perfectly personalized bookmark much more.
Step Three: Apply a Protective Covering to Your Bookmark Template
A paper bookmark will get damaged easily over time, especially as you keep moving it as you read. You should therefore protect your bookmark template somehow. There are a ton of ways to do this, but for this craft, we recommend packing tape because it’s clear, easy, and simple to acquire. Just place packing tape over one side, smooth it down, and then do the other side. Cut away any excess. Your paper bookmark will be safely sealed within the tape and much more durable. It could even get wet with minimal damage! Other options for this step include ModPodge, craft epoxy, and other similar coatings.
Step Four: Punch a Hole in the Top of Your Bookmark and Add a Ribbon
If you have access to a hole puncher, punch a hole in the top of your bookmark. If you don’t, carefully cut out a hole. You can trace something like a pencil eraser to get a perfect circle. Then thread a ribbon through the hole. This will make your bookmark template easier to spot when it’s tucked inside your book.
Step Five (Optional): Use a Beaded or Tassel String Instead of Ribbon
Of course, you could get fancy with your ribbon. You could use a beaded ribbon or tassel string if you want to have an extra fun bookmark. This works especially well with the cute bookmark templates and the bookmark templates for kids.
