Race Car Crafts

Let’s take another lap. There are a ton of race car crafts that go beyond building box cars. Here’s a few we think would be great to try out with your kids while you’re enjoying your race car coloring pages.

Make a Race Car Out of a Toilet Paper Tube

A toilet paper tube makes a great base for a race car. You can make wheels for your car out of things like bottle caps. It won’t be the most functional race car you’ve ever seen, but you can paint it to customize it to your personality. If you’re looking for inspiration, try scrolling through our race car coloring pages to get an idea of how real race cars look.

Use Your Race Cars to Paint

If you have some race cars sitting around the house already, you can use them to make art. This works best with small cars like Hot Wheels. Put a little paint on your paper or canvas, then drive your cars through it to make cool patterns. If you have cars with interesting tire patterns, the paint will pick that up as well. This is a great craft to get your kids involved in, especially if they might not normally think of themselves as artistic. They can create beautiful designs without needing to aspire to becoming the next Picasso. Try it out on your race car coloring pages to add cool patterns to your cars.

Try Race Car Origami

You can make your own origami cars out of paper. There are a ton of origami patterns out there for race cars. Shop around on the internet and choose the one you like best. This craft is great for centering yourself and finding a moment of zen in your busy day. It also can help teach your children patience and persistence as they work through the steps.

Get a Fan and Race a Paper Car

You need a functional paper race car for this one, which your origami pattern may or may not achieve. If not, you can always make a simple paper car with some bottle caps and paper. You can even just add a “sail” to something like a Hot Wheels car that you already own. As long as the car is light, it’ll work for this fun craft and activity. For a bit of extra flair, use a race car coloring page as a base for your paper car.

Now you need a box fan. A standing fan won’t work because it’s too high up. The fan must sit on the floor so when you turn it on, the gust hits your paper car. Set up several cars and race them across the kitchen floor. It’s a great way to spend a rainy day.
