Christmas Crafts for the Whole Family

You don’t need to stop at Santa coloring pages. There are so many more fun Christmas crafts you can indulge in this holiday season. Check out our craft ideas below!

Turn Old Popsicle Sticks into Snowflakes

If you have a few popsicle sticks lying around, you can make super cute snowflakes to hang on your tree. All you need to do is arrange the sticks atop each other and glue them to each other. You’ll want to glue the center of one stick to the center of another. Start with a cross, then do the diagonals. With just four sticks, you’ll have a whole snowflake.

But don’t just stop there. You will probably want to paint your popsicle sticks first. I suggest a nice, bright blue like ice. You can also decorate with glitter or beads for some extra flare. And, of course, you should hot glue a bit of string or ribbon to the top of one stick so your snowflake can hang on the tree.

Craft Paper Plate Ornaments and Angels for Your Tree

You can combine this craft with your Santa coloring pages if you like. Just get some paper plates, decorate them (perhaps by gluing a Santa coloring page onto them!), and add a bit of string so you can hang them on the tree. You can go nuts with the decorations. Bust out the markers, glitter, puffy paint, and whatever else you have.

To make these into angels instead, you’ll simply want to cut a triangle out of the top quadrant of one plate. This will make a flared “wing” effect when you glue the cut out quadrant back on in the center. You can add a circle for a head and color with gold for a heavenly glow.

Turn Gift Bags into Reindeer

You probably have a lot of gift bags to deal with as the holiday gift-giving season approaches. You can have the kids help with this by turning your gift bags into reindeer. Instead of a fancy pre-decorated bag, choose a simple brown paper one. Then, you can glue on googly eyes, a pom pom nose, and paper antlers. Draw a smile and add any other flourishes to your reindeer that you like. I promise your gift recipient has never gotten a gift bag quite like this!

Make Pinecone Ornaments

We aren’t done with the tree quite yet. If you have a lot of pinecones in your yard, you can use them to make adorable ornaments. You can use glitter and other touches to decorate the pinecone. Or you can go a little further by using paper to make an elf, santa, or reindeer “head” to sit on the pinecone “body.” Whatever you choose, don’t forget to hot glue on a bit of ribbon or string so you can hang up your creations proudly.

Cut Out Paper Snowflakes

Here’s another chance to use your Santa coloring pages. I think the hats work especially well for this. After coloring your Santa coloring page, you can fold it in half and start cutting in order to make flashy, interesting snowflakes.

You don’t have to use the Santa coloring pages, however. This craft works great with plain construction paper. If you want a little help, we’ve got paper snowflake patterns you can download for free.

Make a Handprint Wreath

This is the sort of craft you might want to hang onto. Start by tracing your kids’ hands. Cut out several hands and glue them together in a circle to make a wreath. Of course, you can add flourishes like glitter and pom poms. This works especially well with green and red construction paper. But the real magic of this craft is the memories it will create. If you have young children, just think of how much those little hands might change in the next few years. Every year, the hands, and the wreath, will get a little bigger.
