Truth or Dare FAQ
The rules of the game are simple, but maybe you have other questions about our truth or dare questions. Ask away!
What Questions Can I Ask in a Truth or Dare Game?
Technically speaking, you can ask any questions you want in a truth or dare game. There are no true limits. However, you probably don’t want to upset your friends or the other players, so keep in mind who you’re playing with. Are there kids in the game? Family members? This could change which questions you choose to ask in your game.
What Are the Rules for Truth or Dare?
There are few party games with simpler rules than “Truth or Dare.” Decide which player will go first. The player next to them should ask them if they want a truth or a dare.
If they select truth, they have to answer a question honestly. If they select dare, they have to perform the dare. If they refuse, they might have to face the consequences, such as having to answer an extra question or having to sit out for a round.
This continues around the circle until everyone has done a truth or a dare. You can keep on going around the circle as many times as you like.
When Should You Choose “Truth” Instead of “Dare?”
We aren’t going to be able to answer that for you. It really depends on you. How comfortable are you answering a potentially sensitive or embarrassing question in front of the group of people you’re with? If that makes you very uncomfortable, it might be better for you to choose dare.
Also, consider the person who gets to choose the truth or dare question for you. If they know you well, they may dig deep. If they don’t, maybe you’ll get off a little easier. It all depends on you and the specific circumstances of your game.
What Should You Do If Someone Refuses to Answer the “Truths” in Truth or Dare?
No one likes a party pooper, but if a truth makes another player that uncomfortable, perhaps it’s best to let it go. You could select a different question for them, if you’re feeling nice. You could offer them a dare instead of a truth. Your house rules for truth or dare might also include a built-in penalty for people who refuse a truth or dare. Maybe they have to finish their drink or get everyone snacks or simply sit out the next round. It’s up to you to decide what penalties should apply, if any.
