Tulip Crafts for Spring and Holidays
Get in the spring spirit with tulip crafts! Some of these are perfect for springtime holidays like Mother’s Day and Easter. Others make use of your tulip coloring pages, so keep a few on hand for crafting.
Make Potato Tulip Stamps
You can make your own tulips right at home using nothing more than a piece of paper, a little paint, and an ordinary potato. Sounds weird, but it works! Cut the potato in half so there’s a flat end. You should also cut a couple triangles out of the top to give the potato that distinctive tulip shape. Put a dab of paint on a paper, then dab the potato in the paint and “stamp” your paper. You’ll get easy peasy tulip shapes. The kids can also get in on the fun after you’ve cut the potatoes.
Turn Leftover Easter Eggs into Tulips
Easter is a ton of fun, but what are you supposed to do with all those plastic eggs after the hunt is over? Turn them into tulips, of course! You can use half a plastic egg as the bulb of a tulip. Bright, colorful Easter eggs are perfect for this. Just stick them on a popsicle stick or straw, anything you’d like to use as the stem. Pipe cleaners and construction paper make excellent “leaves” for these Easter egg tulips.
Create a Beautiful Tulip Mother’s Day Card
You can use your tulip coloring pages as Mother’s Day cards (this also works for Easter cards, of course). Instead of printing out your tulip coloring page at full size, size it down so it only takes up a quarter of the page. This will allow you to fold the paper into a card shape. Then get coloring. (Free tip for dads: Having your kids do the coloring is totally within the rules.) This makes a super thoughtful homemade gift for Mom. You can also pair it with real tulips!
Celebrate Earth Day by Planting Real Tulips (or Other Plants)
Earth Day is a great time to get outside, and what better way to celebrate than with tulips? If our tulip coloring pages have your kids intrigued, take them outside and let them get their hands dirty. They can help plant tulips. They might even be able to help you take care of your flowers throughout the season. This imparts great lessons about the Earth and personal responsibility, as well as getting your kids away from screens and outdoors for a little while.
