Bee Facts and Bee Coloring Tips
Let’s make the most of our bee coloring pages! Here, you’ll find some fascinating bee facts, as well as some coloring tips so you can get the perfect bee colors for your creation.
Mix Green and Yellow for Unique Bee Colors
When we think about “bee colors” we tend to go right to yellow and black. But using nothing but yellow and black on your bee coloring pages could be boring and flat.
Instead, you could try mixing green and yellow for a more interesting and dynamic color scheme. Depending on how you mix these colors, you could get basil, moss, seafoam, and a host of other shades. These bee colors are great for the leaves and foliage around the bee and not just the bee itself!
Experiment and see what happens.
Learn About Complementary Colors
Learning about complementary colors can be a great way to enhance your bee coloring pages and turn this activity into a learning experience.
Complementary colors are pairs of colors that sit opposite each other on the color wheel. Using these opposites can make for some striking contrasts in your coloring. For example, among your bee colors, you’ll find a lot of bright yellows. The opposite of that is purple. Throwing a purple flower into your bee coloring page can make the whole image more striking.
Black doesn’t have an opposite on the color wheel, but if you use the tip above about mixing green and yellow, you can go to the opposite of green - which is orange - and search for inspiration there.
Keep These Bee Facts in Mind While You Color!
While you’re coloring your super cute bee coloring pages, you can also learn something! Here’s a few bee facts to get your mind buzzing:
- Only female bees have stingers. That’s because the stinger itself is a modification on the organ that lays eggs.
- Do you know how many bees can live in a hive? It’s probably more than you think! Honeybees have the biggest colonies, and they’ll have 50,000 bees all living and working together.
- The reason you only see bees in spring and summer is because they’re actually cold-blooded, which means they need to hibernate during winter to survive.
- Bees actually have five eyes. They have two big ones in the front, which are the ones we tend to think of first. But they also have three smaller eyes in the center of their head.
