Combine with Other Coloring Pages to Make an African Savanna Scene

Did you know that we have loads of coloring pages on all kinds of terrific themes, from Elephants to holidays and giraffes? You can mix and match any of these pages to create a whole wild landscape scene. First, color in your elephant coloring page. Then color in a few related pages. Perhaps you want to try out some giraffe coloring pages or lion coloring pages. Or, get a little bit silly and add dinosaur coloring pages! Why not let your imagination run free?

When your coloring masterpieces are complete, simply cut out the animals or components like trees that you want in your scene. You could cut out an elephant, a Giraffe, a jeep, and a puddle. You could draw in some birds, and flowers to add to your outdoor scene. Lastly, glue or tape the components to a piece of paper (the bigger, the better!) or onto sturdy cardboard (empty shoe boxes work well) and there you have it - your very own wild African scene to admire.

Learn about Elephants and the African Savanna

Once the kids are getting stuck into their elephant coloring pages, it’s time to engage your captive audience with a few elephant facts. You could combine this activity with a nature documentary or even a storybook on elephants. Best of all, the kids will learn all about elephants while coloring them, and not even realize it’s educational!

Make a Card for Someone Special

Use these elephant coloring pages for a greeting card. Know someone that loves elephants, or is perhaps as old and wrinkly as an elephant?! The coloring pages make great handmade gifts. For a card, print out your image on one quadrant of the page. That way, it is easy to fold up the paper into a card. Let your kids color the front of the card, adding their own flair and personality to the ele-image.

Be sure to personalize the inside of the card so your recipient feels extra special. If you need some ideas and inspiration, check out our happy birthday wishes page.

Write an Elephant-Themed Story

Kids will love to let their imaginations run free with an elephant storybook! This is also a wonderful way to capture children’s interest in reading and creative writing. Simply print out enough of our coloring pages to make a book. Staple the pages together, and get the kids to write a few sentences on each page. Then adda title, introduction, story, and of course, a happy ending!

Create a Bookmark, Coaster, or Magnet

Are you a bookworm? Create an elephant bookmark! An Elephant coaster or magnet would make a great gift too. First, color your chosen image, then cut it to the right shape; a rectangle for a bookmark or a square for a coaster.

Next, attach the elephant image to a sturdy piece of cardboard or cardstock. If you want it to last, seal your crafts with ModPodge to help to protect it from water damage.

Making a bookmark? Don’t forget to punch a hole in the top and attach a ribbon or pretty tassel. For a magnet, finish your project with a magnet glued to the back - then it’s ready to be displayed on the fridge.

Interesting Facts About Elephants

Immerse yourself in elephant facts while you’re coloring these impressive animals. There’s so much to learn, but here’s a few fun facts that we love about elephants.

Enormous Elephants

Did you know that Elephants are the largest land animals in the entire world? Now you do! These ginormous creatures can weigh up to 15,000 pounds (that’s 7,000 kg). The tallest elephants stand at a height of a whopping 13 feet (4 meters).

Terrific Tusks

Elephants don’t just use their tusks for self-defense. Their huge white tusks are also very handy for foraging for roots and clearing through scrubland.

Elephants LOVE Snorkeling

Elephants enjoy a swim or wade through water. Their trunks allow them to breathe underwater, when they use them like a snorkel. Very handy for walking across deep rivers.

African Elephant, or Asian Elephant?

What is the difference between an African and Asian elephant? Actually, there are 3 species of elephant; the African bush elephant, the African forest elephant, and the Asian elephant. African elephants are easily identified by their large ears and concave backs. Their Asian elephant cousins have smaller ears and level backs. Asian elephants are related to the extinct wooly mammoths!

Elephants have a good memory

Elephants are very clever and have excellent long-term memories. They can even remember, and recognize locations and other elephants from decades ago. Some experts think that elephants might even have brains with learning and memory skills superior to humans!
